FBBG Education Manager

Plant Science/Environmental Learning; year round

REPORTS TO: FBBG CEO

CLASSIFICATION:  Full Time Mon. thru Fri.; Occasional weekend days/evenings hours.

FBBG is a goal driven, private, self-funded, independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, founded in 1984 and dedicated to supporting and helping sustain a County owned venue for community engagement.
Our mission is nature/environmental education for all populations.

I.  MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

Planning and facilitation of year round children’s outcomes driven K12 nature driven plant science and environmental educational programming.

Community engagement nature programming for all ages.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates year-round programs & classes consistent with FBBG mission.

    • Sustains existing and develops new programming for all populations.
    • Develops plant science/nature driven curriculum specifically for K > 12 students.
    • Teaches classes and leads garden walks.
    • Produces curriculum/materials and recruits/trains FBBG’s part time educators/instructors.
    • Participates in the development/facilitation of community outreach/special events.
    • Reports education program results to CEO regularly and as requested.

III.  REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education; current WI State Certification
  • 5 years as a certified student educator; public school experience a plus.
  • Ability/willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • High, proven level of personal accountability.
  • Must be team and self-driven.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills. Able to multitask.
  • Computer literacy; Microsoft programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to:
    • effectively manage K12 children’s classes/deliver outcomes driven curriculum.
    • create/deliver programs that meet national requirements for science education.
    • hire and manage/lead part time educators.
  • Knowledge of plant science basics.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with all FBBG stakeholders.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, car, proof of insurance, and a safe driving record.

Certified Children’s Educators/Part Time

Job Title:             Children’s Educator

Reports To:         Education Manager

Hours:                  Up to 10 hours per week

Pay:                      Hourly – Paid per class taught

This position is a year round children’s plant science educator for teaching the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens (FBBG) environmental and plant science class at the Boerner Botanical Gardens.

Responsibilities:

* Teach diverse student classes of various grade levels about plant and environmental science following FBBG curriculum and lessons.

*FBBG provides all lessons and materials.

*Set up a classroom and prepare class materials.  Following class, clean up and restore room.

* Maintain classroom order and high standards for learning and student engagement.

* Provide an interactive learning environment for student learners, including outdoor learning.

* Ability and expectation to work and provide instruction in all weather conditions, as classes frequently occur outside in the gardens.

* Work independently and with other staff in classroom and instruction and organization.

* FBBG is happy to have cold weather clothing on hand for students in need.

Position Requirements:

  • Wisconsin teacher certification required (experience in plant/earth science curriculum preferred).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule Monday through Friday
  • Computer skills required; experience with Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Team player
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
