JOB TITLE/ASSIGNMENT: FBBG Education Manager
DEPARTMENT: Education; Plant Science/Environmental Learning; year round
REPORTS TO: FBBG CEO
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time Monday thru Friday; Occasional weekend/evening hours.
I. MAJOR JOB FUNCTION
This position is responsible for adult, family and outcomes driven K12 children’s nature driven/horticulture/plant science and environmental educational programming (planning, budgeting, staffing) in support of FBBG’s overall organizational objectives.
FBBG is a private, self-funded, independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, founded in 1984 and dedicated to supporting and helping sustain a County owned venue for community engagement. Our mission is nature/environmental education for all populations.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creates year-round programs & classes consistent with FBBG mission.
- Sustains existing and develops new programming for all populations.
- Develops plant science/nature driven curriculum specifically for K > 12 students.
- Teaches classes and leads garden walks.
- Produces curriculum/materials and recruits/trains FBBG’s part time educators/instructors.
- Participates in the development/facilitation of community outreach and special events.
- Reports education program results to CEO regularly and as requested.
III. REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in education; current WI State Certification
- Minimum of 10 years as a certified educator; public school experience a plus.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (will include some evenings and weekends).
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- High level of personal accountability.
- Must be team and self-driven.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective time management skills. Able to multitask.
- Computer literacy; Microsoft programs; Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Ability to:
- effectively manage K12 children’s classes/deliver outcomes driven curriculum.
- create/deliver programs that meet national requirements for science education.
- hire and manage/lead part time educators.
- Knowledge of plant science basics.
- The ability to work effectively and collegially with all FBBG stakeholders.
- Must possess valid driver’s license, car, proof of insurance, safe driving record.

Job Title: Children’s Educator
Reports To: Education Manager
Hours: Part time – up to 10 hours per week
Pay: Hourly – paid per class taught
Teaching positions are year-round.
Responsibilities:
- Teach diverse student classes of various grade levels about plant and environmental science following FBBG curriculum and lessons.
- Classes are taught in Boerner’s classrooms and in the gardens utilizing designated planting beds for student learning.
- FBBG provides all lessons and materials.
- Set up classroom/prepare class materials. Following class, clean up room.
- Maintain classroom order for learning and student engagement.
- Provide an interactive learning environment in classroom and in nature.
- Ability and expectation to work and provide instruction in all weather conditions, as classes frequently occur outdoors in the gardens.
FBBG maintains cold weather clothing on hand for students in need.
Position Requirements:
- WI teacher certification required (experience in plant/earth science preferred).
- Ability to effectively & productively manage students for substantive learning.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule Monday through Friday.
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Office & PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be team oriented.
- Professional demeanor and appearance.
